A perverted Derby shopkeeper was jailed for 12 years on Friday after admitting a series of sex crimes against girls as young as just 13.

Dilan Amin, who ran the Famous Shop in Pear Tree Road, Normanton, has been sentenced by Judge Jonathan Bennett at Derby Crown Court.

Amin has previously pleaded guilty in April to two counts of sexual activity with a child. One count relates to incidents which took place between November 1, 2012 and October 31, 2013 when the victim was aged 13.

The second victim was aged 15 when the activity took place between December 6 and 9, 2016.

The 27-year-old, of Pear Tree Road, Normanton, also pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault relating to two different women, between October 11, 2014 and October 12, 2015.

At his previous trial, Amin was also found guilty of a separate sexual assault, inciting a person to prostitution and paying for sex. He has also got four years for robbery which he pleaded guilty to.

A spokesman for Derby City Council said: “The Derby Safeguarding Children Board (DSCB) commends the successful outcome of this trial brought about by well-coordinated multi agency work. Today’s sentencing goes some way to ensure that the brave young girls involved receive justice for the crimes committed against them. “Tackling this form of child abuse continues to be a priority for the Derby Safeguarding Children Board. The outcome of this trial continues to show the progress in the city in detecting and disrupting Child Sexual Exploitation. “The Derby Safeguarding Children Board remains highly committed to ensuring that services across the city are working together effectively to do everything possible to tackle child sexual exploitation. “If anyone has concerns regarding the sexual exploitation of children and young people in Derby, please report it to the police by calling 101. In an emergency, please call 999.”

Judge Jonathan Bennett, who sentenced Amin at Derby Crown Court today, said: “You came to this country when you were 15. You were running the Famous Shop.

“You are a sexual predator. You targeted young, vulnerable girls. You did this for a lengthy time, for about four years.”

When talking about Amin’s victims, he said: “You groomed them.” He said he sometimes offered them drugs and “used them as just objects”. He added: “They were to be disregarded in a whim.”

Update:
One girl who said Amin abused her made claims to a social worker - but later withdrew them and said what she had told them was a lie.
As a result of this, in March 2015 the police issued Amin with a harbourer’s warning. Amin signed the notice and was given a copy and admitted he knew the girl who had made claims against him.
DI Jones said police at the time had no idea of the extent of his offending. He said the allegation was looked into but no corroborative evidence was forthcoming.
He went on to say he was pleased with how the police had worked with other agencies to bring Amin to justice.
